A five color deck that has direction but is far from the typical deck. The power to destroy any permanent is a strong one, and this week we will be piloting a deck that is high on removal but low on conventional win conditions. This deck has been on my mind for the better part of the last five years, constantly on the edge of being built but never finding its voice. I had already spoken about spirits in my deck tech for Quintorius, Field Historian earlier this year, and I covered my love for werewolves in my last article-so I thought it would be fitting to take a look at an underappreciated scary tribe: the scarecrows of Magic. Chernobog appears as a tall, skeletal like figure very much akin to a classical grim reaper, however he is much larger than just a regular reaper, much like his name implies, he wears a large crown on his head, and wears several golden-skull like badges on him, and wears a military style dress, all of which are of the color blackĬhernobog is a person who at his core, is obsessed with power and rulership, as seen in multiple he is obsessed with the idea of being a leader and being a person who sees himself as most others, and could be considered an egotist, while at the same time being a charismatic and likeable person, he saw Death's leadership as corrupt and ineffective and had seeked to overthrow him and install what he sees as the perfect systemĪnd despite his vileness, he does care for his nation, abeit in a very nationalistic and aggressive towards non-reapers and mortals, he does truly care for his people and nation, however despite this he was still willing to not only murder decillions of people, but was also willing to be them through harsh fates, and during his confrontation with lucifer he had actually managed to fake kindness towards him and managed to manipulate him, and even after revealing his hostile nature towards lucifer, he seemed to be much more concerned on getting him to "the other side" rather than killing him, even stating that it not his time to die yet
